East Afrika

The classic safari destinations.

  • Tanzania

Tanzania is the classic safari destination.

The original safari destination! With classic parks such as the Serengeti National Park made famous by proffessor Bernhard Grzimek and the Frankfurt Zoologicial Society in the 1950s and the Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania has a rich history where early explorers used to go on "safari". The very word safari is a swahili word meaning "to go on a journey" or to go on an adventure and Tanzania always delivers.  The rich volcanic soils in the north house one of the greatest spectacles on earth, the great wildebeast migration. Other known parks such as the Ngorongoro Crater sustain their own ecosystem within its cauldron. The Tarangire and Manyara National Park at times have the highest density of elephant in Africa with an abundance of birdlife in its swamps and riverine systems. Baobabs in palm trees fill the landscape. One of the smallest and oldest hunter gatherer communities, the Hadzabe, still continue to practice their old ways of foraging for honey and roots as well as hunt their prey with bows and arrows.

The further south one goes, the drier it gets. To the west the great lakes sustain tropical fish, monkeys and chimpanzees. With a cherry on the top, the spice island Zanzibar is a stone's throw away with its pristine beaches rich arabic influence.

Our favorite areas within this country:
Tarangire National Park - best walking in Tanzania (we can also mobile there)
Serengeti Np - greatest spectacle on Earth. Great for predators and photography
Mahale National Park - Chimp trekking, forests, Lake Tanganika - wild and pure
Rubundo Island Camp - Jurassic Park, Darwins dream pool
    Zanzibar and Mafia

  • Kenya

Kenya makes me wish I was born a 100 years early during the great pioneer days of exploration of the African continent. The people that live there still carry that blueprint deep within their DNA.  Mischievous and always up for a good laugh they complete any adventure. The wildlife viewing is some of the best in the world with it's rich volcanic soil and high density of animals which make it one of the best places for wildlife photography.

The people are proud and beautiful. The art and food is a fusion mix of Samburu colours, colonial vagabonds and arabic flavours.

    Favourite Areas:
Masai Mara - great for photography
    Serengeti National Park
    Lamu Island
